NDOW AND DESERT SPORTSMAN’S TO
HOST FREE RANGE DAY
Las Vegas area hunters and shooters who need
a safe and legal place to sight in their hunting firearms may want
to mark Saturday, September 6, 2008 on their calendar. On that day
the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) will host its sixth annual
Free Range Day at the Desert Sportsman’s Rifle and Pistol
Club, 12201 W. Charleston Blvd.
As co-host of the event, Desert Sportsman’s has made its
range available so hunters who are not club members don’t
have to worry about finding a place to sight in their hunting rifle.
Shooters will be able to reserve a spot at the 25-to-100 yard range.
Range officers and NDOW Hunter Education instructors will be standing
by to insure safety and provide personalized instruction.
“This event has become very popular and people look forward
to taking advantage of this opportunity every year. We have been
fielding calls about this event for a couple of weeks now,”
said Martin Olson, NDOW hunter education coordinator.
Range time and targets are provided free of charge. Shooting starts
at 8 a.m. and will continue through 5 p.m. Space is limited to 20
shooters per hour with each shooter able to reserve at least one
hour of range time. Those who want to take advantage of this opportunity
should contact Martin Olson at the Nevada Department of Wildlife
(702) 486-5127 x 3501 to make their reservation.
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) protects, restores and
manages fish and wildlife, promotes fishing, hunting, and boating
safety. NDOW’s wildlife and habitat conservation efforts are
primarily funded by sportsmen’s license and conservation fees
and a federal surcharge on hunting and fishing gear. Support wildlife
and habitat conservation in Nevada by purchasing a hunting, fishing,
or combination license. For more information, visit www.ndow.org.
