WILDLIFE COMMISSION TO SELECT NEW LEADERSHIP
The Nevada Board of Wildlife Commissioners will
select a new chair and vice chair, and welcome four new wildlife
commissioners at its Aug. 15-16 meeting in Eureka Nevada.
New commissioners are Preston Wallace, of Dyer, representing farming,
Gerry Lent, of Reno, representing sportsmen, Michael McBeath, of
Las Vegas, representing sportsmen, and Thomas Cavin, of Carson City,
representing sportsmen.
The meeting will begin at 10:30 a.m. in the Eureka County Courthouse,
located at 10 South Main, in Eureka.
Items on the agenda include presenting the Wayne E. Kirch Conservation
Award, review and approval of waterfowl seasons, and several informational
items.
The commission will hear a proposed regulation to alter eligibility
waiting periods for hunters who successfully draw a tag for antelope,
bighorn sheep, elk and mountain goat. The commission will also consider
a regulation that would add wolverines to the state’s list
of protected mammals. Systems Consultants will provide a report
on the 2008 Application Hunt Draw, and Law Enforcement Chief Rob
Buonamici will give a report on the agency’s recent outreach
efforts on shed antlers.

The Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) protects, restores and
manages fish and wildlife, promotes fishing, hunting, and boating
safety. NDOW’s wildlife and habitat conservation efforts are
primarily funded by sportsmen’s license and conservation fees
and a federal surcharge on hunting and fishing gear. Support wildlife
and habitat conservation in Nevada by purchasing a hunting, fishing,
or combination license. For more information, visit www.ndow.org.
