NDOW OFFERS CLASS FOR BOWHUNTERS
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW), in conjunction with the International Bowhunter Education Program (IBEP), has scheduled a bowhunter education course March 6 at the Clark County Shooting Park. Though completion of this course is not required in Nevada, NDOW is offering the class as a customer service.
“Many of our bowhunting customers hunt in other states, some of which require completion of this course before they can do so. By offering this class, our customers can more easily meet that requirement and can do so without traveling,” said Doug Nielsen, conservation education supervisor for NDOW. “This course will also provide bowhunters – both the novice and the experienced – with the chance to review the basic fundamentals of safe, ethical and responsible bowhunting.”
The one-day, 10-hour class will be held at the shooting park’s education center. Starting time is 8 a.m. Ending time is 6 p.m. The cost is $15 for materials and is payable to the IBEP instructor at the door. Seating is limited.
Course registration can be completed online at www.ndow.org . Just follow the Hunter Education link on the home page as if you are signing up for a Hunter Education course and look for IBEP bowhunting certification. For more information contact Martin Olson, 702-486-5127 x 3501.
The IBEP class will certify participants in basic bowhunting techniques and qualify them for several states which mandate a specific bowhunter education course. State regulations vary and hunters should familiarize themselves with the regulations in the state where they plan to hunt. Though Nevada does not require a special bowhunting certification to archery hunt, anyone born after Jan. 1, 1960 must pass an official state hunter education course in order to purchase a hunting license.
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) protects, restores and manages fish and wildlife, and promotes fishing, hunting, and boating safety. NDOW’s wildlife and habitat conservation efforts are primarily funded by sportsmen’s license and conservation fees and a federal surcharge on hunting and fishing gear. Support wildlife and habitat conservation in Nevada by purchasing a hunting, fishing, or combination license. For more information, visit www.ndow.org.
