ANGEL LAKE KIDS FISHING DERBY
If you’re looking to cool off in July, then bring your children to the Angel Lake Kids Fishing Derby at Angel Lake, just outside of Wells on Saturday, July 17.
The free derby is for kids 15 years old and under and is sponsored by the U.S. Forest Service (USFS), Wells Rural Electric Company, Wells Chamber of Commerce, Wells Family Resource Center, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW).
Besides the fishing derby, kids will have the chance to visit educational stations including a NDOW fish stocking truck, boating safety, fly tying, casting, fish identification and cleaning. Prizes will be awarded for the longest, heaviest and smallest legally caught fish in 5 age groups, as well as a free drawing for prizes from participants at large. Following the derby, there will be a free chilidog lunch served for the whole family. Every participant will receive a goody bag filled with fun and informational items.
Registration opens at 7:30 a.m., with the derby beginning at 8:15 a.m. There is no charge for the derby, but children must be accompanied by a responsible adult. For more information contact the Wells Chamber of Commerce at 775-752-3540, the USFS at 775-752-3357, or the Nevada Department of Wildlife at 775-777-2300.
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) protects, restores and manages fish and wildlife, and promotes fishing, hunting, and boating safety. NDOW’s wildlife and habitat conservation efforts are primarily funded by sportsmen’s license and conservation fees and a federal surcharge on hunting and fishing gear. Support wildlife and habitat conservation in Nevada by purchasing a hunting, fishing, or combination license. For more information, visit www.ndow.org.
