WILDLIFE COMMISSION TO MEET IN LAS VEGAS

The Nevada Board of Wildlife Commissioners (NBWC) will meet in Las Vegas, March 19-20 to hear recommendations to adopt changes to four regulations including a proposed regulation change that would allow hunters who apply for a big game tag to withdraw or amend an application previously submitted and a proposed regulation change that would establish language for the Silver State tag and draw.

Other regulations being brought before the Commission will be a proposed regulation prohibiting the importation, transportation or possession of certain crayfish, authorizing the Department of Wildlife to issue permits or licenses to an institutional member of the Zoological Association of America and a regulation relating to waterways; requiring vessels to be operated at a reduced speed along a portion of the Colorado River.

The meeting will be held at the Clark County Government Center at 500 S. Grand Central Parkway, and will commence at 9:30 a.m. on Friday and at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday. The meeting is open to the public and everyone is invited to attend.

The NBWC will also be asked to select a sportsmen’s group to sponsor the annual Nevada Duck Stamp Art Contest for the 2011 and 2012 contests.

Several reports will be presented to the Commission including the County Advisory Boards to Manage Wildlife reporting on mule deer overview efforts within each county and an update by acting Game Division Chief Rich Haskins on the disease event affecting bighorn sheep in the East Humboldt Range and in the Ruby Mountains. Other reports scheduled for the meeting are an NDOW budget update by Deputy Director Patrick Cates, an update on the Wildlife Damage Management Committee by vice chairman Scott Raine, and an update on the University of Nevada Reno’s College of Agriculture by Professor Kurt Pregitzer, chair of the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Science. A report by Chief Game Warden Rob Buonamici on trail cameras and a litigation report by Deputy Attorney General David Newton are also on the agenda.

Members of the public who would like to address the Commission on a topic not on the agenda may do so during the public comment period near the beginning of each
meeting. People wishing to address the Commission should complete a speaker’s card and present it to the recording secretary.
