RESERVATIONS NEEDED FOR OVERTON WMA DOVE OPENER

Sept. 1 is opening day of the 2011 dove hunting season. Hunters wishing to hunt at the Overton Wildlife Management Area (WMA) will need to make reservations for opening day and the first weekend. They can do this by participating in a drawing scheduled for 8 a.m. Monday, Aug. 29 at the Nevada Department of Wildlife offices in Las Vegas and Henderson, or at the Overton WMA headquarters.

The Las Vegas office is located at 4747 Vegas Drive (near Decatur Blvd) and the Henderson office is at 744 South Racetrack Road.

Reservations must be made in person, or by a representative, and will not be accepted by mail or phone. Hunters applying for group reservations will be limited to four hunters per party. The name of each hunter is required to obtain a reservation card. Reservations will be limited to 60 hunters for the opening day and each day of opening weekend. Available reservations are distributed among the three drawing locations.

During the dove hunt reservations are not required for any days other than the opening day and first weekend. An upland game bird stamp is not required for dove hunting; however, hunters are required to have a Harvest Information Program number (HIP), which can be obtained by visiting www.ndow.org.
