More Information

What is there to hunt in Nevada?

Big Game - Mule deer, elk, pronghorn antelope, bighorn sheep and mountain goats all require tags to be hunted. The tag application period is from mid-March to mid-April. Most tags are awarded through a random draw process in early June and are available to those 12 years old or older. A second drawing is conducted for remaining tags in early July, and any remaining tags after that draw can be applied for on a first-come, first-served basis. Mountain lion tags are available year-round over the counter at any authorized license agent or can be purchased online during the draw application period. Click here for Big Game Application Information.

A second drawing is conducted for remaining tags in June, and any remaining tags after that draw can be applied for on a first-come, first-served basis.

Upland Game: Anyone 12-years of age or older who hunts upland game such as sage-grouse, blue and ruffed grouse, Himalayan snow partridge, chukar, Hungarian partridge, quail and pheasant must have an upland game bird stamp in addition to a hunting license while hunting. A upland game stamp is not required to hunt crows, turkey, cottontail or white-tailed jackrabbit.

Migratory Game Birds and Waterfowl: A hunting license and both state and federal duck stamps are generally required to hunt waterfowl in Nevada (check regulations for youth hunting and stamp requirement information). Waterfowl include: swan, ducks, mergansers and geese.

Online tag applications can be found at www.huntnevada.com.

To purchase a license, please visit any of our NDOW offices or license agents. Hunting and fishing licenses, mountain lion tags, upland game stamps and trout stamps as well as duplicate licenses are also available for sale online at www.ndowlicensing.com.

Nevada law requires anyone born after 01/01/1960 who is buying a hunting license to show proof of hunter education. Learn more about Hunter Education requirements.

Please review the Big Game Seasons & Application Regulations. The Big Game Seasons & Application Regulations can be picked up at any NDOW office or license agent. The newest Hunt Book will not be available until early June at NDOW offices, license agents.

Dream Tags

The Nevada Dream Tags program is an exciting new way to raise money for Nevada wildlife. There are five dream tags that will be awarded in 2012. One for Elk, California Bighorn Sheep, Desert Bighorn Sheep, Antelope and Mule Deer. If you win a dream tag you will have the ability to hunt that species in any area in Nevada at anytime during the regular hunting season (still must follow all other rules for weapon class and seasons for that weapon). - 2012 Dream Tags Regulation

The Dream Tags program is raffle based. After purchasing a Resource Enhancement Stamp ($10) you have the ability to purchase as many raffle tickets that you want! For more information visit the Dream Tag Website

Partnership in Wildlife (PIW) Tags
Partnership in Wildlife (PIW) is a voluntary and optional participation program that offers unique hunting opportunities to hunters for a few statewide big game tags. A person with a PIW tag may hunt in any unit with an open season for the species listed on the tag, during the season dates when that unit is open for that species, and only with the weapon authorized to be used during that open season.
Wildlife Heritage Tags
Wildlife Heritage Tags - This program awards organizations tags for various species to auction at their fundraising events. The funds donated through the Heritage Tag program are placed in the Wildlife Heritage Trust account and the interest generated from these funds will be used each year for special projects benefiting game species.
