09/30/03 WATERFOWL HUNTING BEGINS OCT. 11 Waterfowl hunting is still scheduled to get under way in most areas of the state on Saturday, Oct. 11 as the Nevada Board of Wildlife Commissioners only made minor adjustments to the seasons during a meeting held Saturday (9/27/03) in Ely. Commissioners approved a one-day closure of hunting for ducks, mergansers, coots, gallinules, moorhens and snipe on Oct. 16 to conform with a hunting framework that has been established by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Duck hunting begins Oct. 11 in all areas of the state except the Moapa Valley portion of Overton Wildlife Management Area in Clark County. That area’s duck season opens Saturday, November 1. Again this year, there is a daily limit of seven ducks with a possession limit of 14. However, there are very restrictive season dates and bag limits for canvasback and pintail ducks. Pintails may only be harvested from Oct. 11 through Oct. 15 and from Dec. 2 to Jan. 25. Canvasback hunting will be permitted from Oct. 11 through Dec. 10, except Oct. 16 when the entire state is closed to duck hunting. Goose hunting begins Oct. 18 in all areas except the Moapa Valley portion
of Overton Wildlife Management Area, which opens on Nov. 1. The goose
season closes on Jan. 25, except Washoe Valley in Washoe County where
hunting closes on Jan. 4. Waterfowl hunters also are required to have valid Harvest Information Program (HIP) numbers written on their licenses when in the field. Numbers can be obtained by calling (800) 938-5263. Hunting licenses must be purchased before applying for the HIP numbers. Information about the waterfowl regulations, season dates and bag limits
can be obtained by contacting any NDOW office and is available online. |
