APPLICATIONS FOR SPRING TURKEY TAGS FAST APPROACHING

Hunters who want the chance to call in a Nevada gobbler have until 5 p.m. Feb. 19 to submit their applications for tags that will allow them to hunt during the spring 2008 wild turkey season. Applications can be submitted via traditional mail service or through the Internet at www.ndow.org.

There are three open-quota areas in Nevada. They are Lyon County, except for the Mason Valley Wildlife Management Area, Churchill County and Paradise Valley in Humboldt County. Tags in the remaining hunt areas around the state are limited. In some areas a significant portion of the turkey population is found on privately owned land so hunters will need to secure permission before they hunt on those properties.

New this year is the Junior Spring Wild Turkey Hunt in Lincoln County. This is an open-quota hunt for hunters who will be 12 years old before the first day of the hunting season and no older than 17 until after the last day of the season.

Hunters wishing to hunt in the Paradise Valley area must first obtain a Paradise Valley of Humboldt County Application form from participating landowners. The form must be signed by a landowner and submitted through the mail or over the counter at Wildlife Administrative Services in Fallon during normal business hours. These are the only applications that may be hand delivered.

Application materials are available at NDOW offices and online at www.ndow.org. Results of the tag draw will be available at Nevada Department of Wildlife regional offices or online on March 7.
