WILDLIFE HERITAGE AND LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEES TO MEET

The Wildlife Commission’s Heritage and Legislative Committees will meet Thursday Jan. 7, 2010, at the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) headquarters office, in Reno, 1100 Valley Road.

The Wildlife Heritage Committee will meet beginning at 8 a.m. Committee chairman Dr. Gerald A. Lent will call the meeting to order, with an agenda item to discuss “Harvest Control for Heritage and Partners in Wildlife Tags in Big Game Units.”

The Legislative Committee, under the direction of its chair, Daryl Capurro, will begin its meeting at 11 a.m. The committee will discuss possible items for the 2011 Legislative session, including NDOW’s agency proposals and a non-Departmental proposal to amend the Wildlife Heritage Trust Fund to permit use of more than 75% of the interest from the Wildlife Heritage Trust Fund account.

The Wildlife Heritage Trust Account is administered by the Board of Wildlife Commissioners. The money in the account is donated by sportsmen at big game tag auctions, sponsored by sportsmen’s groups around the state. The funds are to be used for the “protection, propagation, restoration, transplanting, introduction, and management of any game fish, game mammal, game bird, or fur-bearing mammal and the management and control of predatory wildlife in this state.”

The public is welcome to attend the meetings.
