NDOW SPONSORS CONNECTING CHILDREN WITH WILDLIFE

The Nevada Department of Wildlife is sponsoring a series of presentations and trail hikes designed for elementary students and their families. A variety of topics focusing on outdoor fun and local wildlife are planned.

Upcoming topics include amazing adaptations, batty bats, fun with field guides, life under river rocks, and wild evidence. There will also be a presentation about owls by Amy Leist from the Great Basin Bird Observatory.

Each presentation will incorporate projects and games as well as an outdoor portion along the Verdi Nature Trail to tie it all together. The series will run through the summer and takes place on the second and fourth Saturday of each month. Please make sure you’re dressed appropriately for the weather. Classes are free to all participants.

WHEN: Saturday, June 12, 2010 from 1 p.m. - 3 p.m.

WHERE: Verdi Community Library and Wildlife Education Center 270 Bridge Street. (Building is adjacent to the Verdi Elementary School grounds)

AGES: Classes are designed for ages 5-11 and families

BRING: Appropriate clothing and shoes for the weather and a bottle of water
