NDOW OFFERS BEGINNING FLY-FISHING CLASSES
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) has scheduled two free fly-fishing classes for those who are interested in learning what the sport is all about and why so many people are making it a part of their lives. While one class focuses on fishing with flies, the other will teach participants how to tie the flies they'll use when they go fishing.
The Introduction to Fly-fishing workshop is a two-part class and will be held Friday and Saturday, Sept. 23 and 24. The first half of this class will begin Friday at 6 p.m. at the NDOW Las Vegas office, 4747 Vegas Drive. Subject matter will include such fly-fishing basics as terminology, knot tying and equipment selection. Hands-on fly-casting instruction will take place in the second portion of the class, which is scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday at a park nearby the NDOW office.
You can't fly-fish without flies so NDOW is also offering a Beginning Fly-tying Class. It will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, also at the NDOW Las Vegas office. This hands-on class is for adults that want to learn how to create their own fishing flies.
NDOW will provide all equipment and materials needed for these classes. Space is limited so registration is required. For more information, or to register, contact Ivy Santee at (702) 486-5127 x 3503.
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) protects, restores and manages fish and wildlife, and promotes fishing, hunting, and boating safety. NDOW's wildlife and habitat conservation efforts are primarily funded by sportsmen's license and conservation fees and a federal surcharge on hunting and fishing gear. Support wildlife and habitat conservation in Nevada by purchasing a hunting, fishing, or combination license. For more information, visit www.ndow.org.
