Youth waterfowl hunt slated for southern counties

Nevada’s young hunters will have southern flyways all to themselves during a youth-only waterfowl hunt scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 22 in both Clark and Lincoln Counties. The hunt is open only to hunters who are 15 years of age or younger, but each youth hunter must be accompanied by an adult who is at least 18 years old. However, the adults are not allowed to hunt.

“This hunt is the perfect chance for an adult to share their passion for the outdoors while introducing a young hunter to hunting. Because they can’t actually hunt themselves, the adult can better focus on helping the youngster,” said Doug Nielsen, Conservation Education Supervisor for the Nevada Department of Wildlife. “It’s also a good time for discussing the rules of ethical hunting and the importance of conservation to the future of our natural resources.”

The daily bag limits for ducks, geese and other waterfowl are the same as those established for the regular season. For ducks the combined daily limit is seven birds, but may include no more than two hen mallards, two pintails or two redheads and no more than one canvasback and three scaup. The possession limit is twice the daily
