ADDITIONAL ROAD CLOSURES THAT AFFECT
HUNT UNITS
Beginning around August 18, 2008, the Forest Service will begin
a number of road repairs around Elko. All road work will be completed
by the end of September, or early October.
The road work will involve the following areas on the specified
dates:
Thomas Canyon Campground
Located 25 miles south of Elko. This bridge stability improvement
project will begin on-or-around Monday, August 18, and will involve
heavy truck traffic and excavation equipment in Thomas Canyon Campground
and along Lamoille Canyon Road. No traffic control is planned; however,
campers may notice noise and be inconvenienced by construction in
the campground associated with earth work operations. The project
should require three days to complete.
Meadow Creek Bridge
Located 90 miles north of Elko. The Meadow Creek Bridge, located
near the intersection of Hicks Mountain Road and Meadow Creek Road,
was burned during the Murphy Complex Fire in 2007. Bridge construction
will begin around Tuesday, August 26, and will require closing Meadow
Creek Road to all traffic for about a month. Signs are now being
posted at all access points that lead into the Meadow Creek area.
The signs will state the closure dates and contact number(s) for
an
information recording. Work will be continuous from start-to-finish
to expedite its completion, and to minimize the inconvenience to
travelers. A detour around the construction site is not feasible;
travelers should not expect through travel on Meadow Creek Road
during this construction project.
