NDOW TO HOST FISHING CLINICS AND AN ANTELOPE SEMINAR

During the next two weeks, the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) is hosting two fishing classes and an informational seminar for hunters who are interested in learning more about pronghorn antelope. One of the fishing classes is a beginner’s clinic and the other is a fly-tying workshop.

The antelope seminar will be held July 15 from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. in the Commission Chambers of the Clark County Government Center, 500 Grand Central Parkway. On the agenda are discussions of the antelope’s habitat and behavioral habits, hunting laws and safety considerations. An NDOW biologist and a game warden will be on hand to answer questions in their respective areas of responsibility and a local taxidermist and a wild game butcher will present information on field care of the animal once the tag is filled.

Anglers interested in learning how to tie their own fishing flies can do so at a fly-tying workshop the NDOW Angler Education Program will be hosting Mon., July 20. The workshop will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the NDOW office located at 4747 Vegas Drive (near Decatur) in Las Vegas.

There is no charge for this hands-on, entry-level workshop in which participants will become familiar with the equipment, materials and techniques tiers use when creating fishing flies. NDOW will provide all equipment and materials used in the class.

Anyone interested in learning the basics of fishing is invited to attend a free fishing clinic Sat. July 25 at Veterans Memorial Park in Boulder City. The clinic is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. and will cover the basics of fishing -- casting skills, fish identification, bait and lure selection, and knot tying. Participants will also have the chance to put their new found skills to the test. Those who are 12 years old or older must have a Nevada fishing license.
