NDOW: FENCE REMOVAL VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Volunteers are being sought by the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) for a fence removal project on Saturday July 25th. Two fences along an abandoned railroad north of Wells lie directly in the migration path of thousands of mule deer. In addition to helping deer, removing the unneeded fence will allow antelope and elk to move more easily through the area. Each fence encountered by migrating animals costs that animal needed energy reserves. With fewer fences to jump, animals save energy for body heat and fawn production.
Volunteers are asked to meet at the NDOW office, 60 Youth Center Road in Elko, at 6:45 a.m. and leave at 7 a.m. on Saturday July 25. Carpooling to the work site will be encouraged. Bring work gloves, hat, sunscreen and clothing to protect from the sun. All other tools and materials will be supplied. Lunch will be provided at noon and a hearty dinner will be served in Wells at 6:00 pm.
Please contact Norv Dallin at 777-2391 or ndallin@ndow.org if you can help.
