PROJECT WILD IN LINCOLN COUNTY
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) is going Wild in Lincoln County as the agency’s Project Wild program continues to expand in southern Nevada. A two-day Wild teacher workshop has been scheduled for the rural county’s school teachers and will give participants the tools they need to instruct students about the many species of wildlife in the state. They will also learn about ecology and other subjects.
Project Wild is a nationwide education program with emphasis on wildlife and its habitat. The curriculum is for students in grades K-12 and can be adapted to all learning styles and abilities. The interdisciplinary approach of Project Wild fits into a variety of subject areas from language skills to math. Workshop attendees will take home a curriculum book with over 100 wildlife teaching activities.
Both classroom and informal educators are welcome at the workshop which is scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug. 4 and 5 at the Caliente Elementary School in Caliente, Nevada. The workshop will begin at 8 a.m. each day. Teachers can earn one in-service credit through the Nevada State Department of Education. Graduate credit will also be available through Southern Utah University.
Teachers should call Dorothea Hepworth at 775- 728-4658 to register. For more information contact Margie Klein at NDOW, 702-486-5127 x 3502.
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) protects, restores and manages fish and wildlife, and promotes fishing, hunting, and boating safety. NDOW’s wildlife and habitat conservation efforts are primarily funded by sportsmen’s license and conservation fees and a federal surcharge on hunting and fishing gear.
