The Department of Wildlife is always recruiting volunteers for activities in Hunter Education, Angler Education, Interpretation and Tours and Fish Hatcheries. These activities are ongoing and are always in need of assistance.
Additionally, various special volunteer activities are scheduled throughout the year, from bighorn sheep relocation or electrofishing to seed collection and water guzzler construction or maintenance. Check below for the most current volunteer activities, separated by region:

PROJECT: Verdi Nature Trail Clean Up
WHAT: Assist in clearing the Verdi Nature Trail of encroaching vegetation and invasive weeds.
WHERE: Verdi - Verdi Nature Center and Trail (Bridge Street)
WHEN: Saturday, August 26, 2006, 8 a.m. - 11 a.m.
LOGISTICS: Please bring gloves, sunscreen and hat. Limited tools are available, so volunteers are asked to bring their own shovels, mattocks, or rakes, if possible. Refreshments and snacks will be provided.

PROJECT: Wildlife Education Volunteer
WHAT: Assist in leading wildlife and aquatic education programs
WHERE: Reno - Oxbow Nature Studay Area (3100 Dickerson Road)
Verdi - Verdi Nature Center and Trail (Bridge Street)
WHEN : Varies according to group schedule. Usually weekdays from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
LOGISTICS : Participants will be trained to conduct and assist with wildlife related programs for groups of all ages, but primarily elementary students.
# VOLUNTEERS : 5-10
Some projects listed above are highly variable and weather dependent. Others will require overnight stays in primitive locations.
