The National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) is an in-person program aimed at improving educational performance among students in grades 4 – 12. The program teaches students focus, self-control, discipline, patience, and the life lessons required to be successful in the classroom and in life. Archery is a safe and fun activity for all students regardless of athletic skill, gender, or size.
Schools that are a part of Nevada’s NASP program learn the basics of archery through their physical education courses. In addition, schools can participate in the state tournament held in Las Vegas, Reno and remotely within their school every year! The tournaments host hundreds of students from across Nevada to compete! Check out the video below:
We partner with schools and teachers throughout Nevada to get the training and equipment needed for your school to host a NASP team. Grants are available to schools to assist in the purchase of equipment. Teachers facilitating the NASP program must go through the Basic Archery Instructor course (BAI). This course teaches archery instruction techniques to both novice and experienced archers alike. Course content includes NASP program overview, range set-up and safety, use of a string bow, the eleven step to archery success, coaching techniques, and an equipment portion covering nomenclature, inspection, operation, and maintenance. Teachers who complete BAI are certified to teach Olympic style archery to school-age students.
